World Languages

With languages you are home anywhere.

In a world that is increasingly interdependent, we can no longer afford to remain monolingual. Success depends in large measure on the ability of an individual to function as a member of a global village
whose members speak a variety of languages. Learning a language is no longer a pastime; it is a necessity.

The World Languages Department of Grossmont College is one of the largest language programs of all the San Diego area community colleges. Our programs are designed to provide students with skills in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing. It also gives students a greater understanding of culture and civilization, and prepares them for greater international and domestic career opportunities.

We offer an Associate of Arts for Transfer (AAT) Degree in Spanish, Associate of Arts Degrees in Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish as well as a variety of Certificates of Achievement and Proficiency in all languages.

Duration
Our AA and AA-T Degrees fulfill lower division requirements at most four-year colleges and universities and thus provide a broad-based foundation for transfer students. They are designed to be completed in four semesters as a full-time student. Certificates of Achievement and Proficiency vary in length and can be completed two semesters or less.
