Learning Communities

FYE is offering two learning communities for the 2026-2027 academic year. Learning communities are a pair of classes with the same students to experience a close community, and where you will be supported by caring instructors through a transformational learning experience.

Adventure A - Exploration  Path

We will dive into interests and community issues designed for students who are exploring different career/educational pathways.

  • Coun. 120 (T/Th) 11am-12:20pm
    • Professor Ramirez
  • Engl. C 1000 (T/Th) 12:30pm-2:35pm
    • Professor Rodriguez

Adventure B - STEM Path

We will focus on fostering a supportive learning environment crucial for students to thrive on the exciting STEM pathways.

  •  Coun. 130 (T/Th) 11am-12pm
    • Professor Shamasha
  • Math 171 (M-Th) 9:30am-10:50am

Why be a part of an FYE learning community/course?
  • You will make powerful connections across classes
  • You will join a close community of peers
  • Professors and other staff work closely together to support you
  • Studies show that learning communities increase student success including higher GPAs and completing educational goals

How to Join

To join our Learning Community, follow these steps:

  1. Apply for our FYE program.
  2. Once accepted, we highly recommend you meet with an FYE Counselor to determine if this learning community/course is best for you and your educational journey.
  3. Apply to join one of the communities. Space is limited and will be granted on a first come, first served basis.
  4. Upon reviewing your application we will inform you of your acceptance (or denial if space is at capacity). If accepted, you will be notified and granted permission to enroll in the classes.
  5. Add the classes on your own by registering through Self-Service.
