Our Purpose ...

The Honors Experience at Grossmont College is driven by the college’s vision of student success and empowerment through a culture of inclusivity, antiracism, and equity. Honors programming at Grossmont is committed to foster the spirit of academic excellence through student and faculty dedication to scholarly endeavors. The Honors Program is one of the many ways in which Grossmont College provides educational leadership through learning opportunities that anticipate, prepare for, and meet the future challenges of a complex democratic and a global society.

 

As an Honors student you will have the opportunity to:

 

  • Engage in research with supervising faculty.
  • Official transcript indicates "Honors" course (great for your application!)
  • Present a talk or poster at the HTCC Student Research Conference for California Community Colleges. 
  • Publish a paper based on your work.

Student Requirements for Participation

  1. College students should have a 3.2 cumulative GPA or higher after completion of 12 college degree applicable units.

  2. Entering freshman must have a 3.2 high school GPA or higher.

  3. All students must be eligible for ENGL 120. Successful completion of the pre-requisite courses or passing the assessment tests demonstrates eligibility.

  4. All students must be eligible for Math 160. Successful completion of the pre-requisite courses or passing the assessment tests demonstrates eligibility.

  5. All students who intend to complete the Honors Experience must submit a completed Honors Experience Application Form to the office of the Honors Coordinator.

  6. Students who meet the requirements for participation but do not want to complete the program are welcome to register in honors classes.

  7. Students who are interested in the honor experience but do not meet all the requirements may petition the Honors Coordinator for a waiver of the requirements. Students petitioning for a waiver must request a recommendation from an instructor teaching an honors course.

  8. Both full-time and part-time students are encouraged to participate.

  9. Student must earn at least a "B" in each Honors course at the end of the semester.

Student Requirements for Continuing Active Status

  1. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.2 GPA in all Grossmont College course work.
  2. Students must earn a minimum of a "B" in all Honors course sections.
  3. Complete a minimum of one Honors course each academic year.
  4. Complete an annual interview with a student academic counselor.

Student Requirements for Completion

  1. Submission of all completion application materials to Honors coordinator by deadline.
  2. Maintenance of a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
  3. Students must earn a minimum of a "B" in all Honors course sections. 
  4. Completion of 18 semester units in Honors courses.
