Geography is what helps us make sense of the world in which we exist.
Geographers draw upon theories from both the physical and social sciences. As physical
scientists, they study the processes and resulting features of the earth’s surface,
such as vegetation, climate, soils, landforms, and resources. As social scientists,
geographers explore such topics as the arrangement of societies on the earth’s surface,
land use patterns, urbanization, resources and energy usage, and environmental conservation.
Therefore, geography includes a wide range and variety of academic disciplines in
both the physical and social sciences. It is truly an integrating discipline.
The Associate of Arts (local) Degree in Geography can be attained without buying textbooks.

ZTC applies to specific sections, and not necessarily all sections of a course in
an academic plan.
Duration
We offer a local Associate of Arts (AA) degree, and an Associate of Arts for Transfer
Degree in Geography. These degrees can be earned in 4 semesters if you are a full-time
student and prepare you for transfer to a four-year institution. A certificate of
proficiency can be earned in as little as one semester.
Certificates of Proficiency are designed for the student who needs to be prepared
for effective interaction in a diverse workplace or other settings. A department-issued
certificate may be awarded upon successful completion of a prescribed course of study.
These certificates will not appear on a student’s transcript.
