Professional Development Culture and Climate Survey Information

The faculty, staff and administrators of Grossmont College are working hard to put
students first. In the face of changing student demographics, significant changes
in the campus’ leadership, and a cohort of newly hired faculty, the college’s leaders
commissioned an evaluation to explore the topics of professional development and
campus culture and climate. This effort was carefully and deliberately designed to
give voice to the full college workforce in order to understand the current states of
various elements across the organization and inform the college’s strategic planning. To read the survey findings click on the link below:

With current college goals and initiatives in mind, the committee is especially looking for workshops related to the following three areas:

  • Outreach
  • Retention
  • Student Engagement
  • Institutional Capacity

The FLEX Calendar Program Handbook identifies the purpose of the Flexible Calendar Program as a vehicle to "provide time for faculty to participate in development activities that are related to "staff, student, and instructional improvement." (Title 5, Section 55724), so you will be asked to identify which area of professional development your workshop falls under. Those areas are:

  •  Course instruction and evaluation
  •  Staff development, in-service training and instructional improvement
  •  Program and course curriculum or learning resource development and evaluation
  •  Student personnel services
  •  Learning resource services (e.g. computer and technological proficiency programs)
  •  Related activities, such as student advising, guidance, orientation, matriculation services, and student, faculty and staff diversity
  •  Departmental or division meetings (except meetings required by contract) conferences and workshops, and institutional research·

Workshop proposals submitted by Friday, May 5,  will be given priority consideration.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Cindi Harris or Micah Jendian  your Professional Development Coordinators, Jeanette Calo, the Chair of the Faculty Professional Development Committee, or Rochelle Weiser in the Professional Development Office.

Submit an Activity for Professional Development Credit

There are two ways to seek approval for Professional Development events:

  • Through a proposal (like during FLEX week) where faculty propose a workshop or event be added to the FLEX week or Professional Development Calendar.
  • The second way is via submission of an independent proposal to the faculty members dean.
